Distributed Revision Control Via the World Wide Web
نویسندگان
چکیده
Revision control has long been a standard part of software development. With the enormous expansion of the Internet and its increasing use as a means of communicating among geographically dispersed software developers, the need for distributed version control over the Internet has become acute. In order to address this need, the authors have developed a revision control server based on the World Wide Web (WWW) and RCE (an outgrowth of RCS). This proves to be possible and it also highlights the strengths and weaknesses of using the Hyper Text Mark up Language and standard WWW browsers such as NetScape TM and Mosaic to accomplish this goal.

The advent of the World-Wide Web as a distributed hypermedia database is forcing a departure from the traditional views of static, published information. The perception that the information here is easily alterable is creating, and will continue to create, the demand for continual change to this information. This paper discusses the use of the World Wide Web (WWW) for the teaching of ECE291 and describes the development and implementation of new interactive software modules that automatically grade on-line homeworks, record student scores, graphic...
متن کاملDistributed redirection for the World-Wide Web (extended version)
Replication in the World-Wide Web covers a wide range of techniques. Often, the redirection of a client browser towards a given replica of a Web page is performed after the client’s request has reached the Web server storing the requested page. As an alternative, we propose to perform the redirection as close to the client as possible in a fully distributed and transparent manner. Distributed r...
